Songs: Months song and numbers 1-20


Our Theme: This week we learned about - El invierno- ehl een-bee-ehr-no- Winter.
  • Months/ Meses- meh-sehs of invierno are :
  1. diciembre-December
  2. enero- January
  3. feberero-Febuary
  4. marzo- March
The kids were given a handout last week which has the months of the year and their pronunciations for you.

  • Appropriate clothes
  1. Mitones- me- toh-nehs- mittens
  2. Sueter- sue- eh-tehr- sweater
  3. Abrigo- ah- bree- goh- coat
  • Weather en invierno
  1. Frìo- free-oh- cold
  2. nieve- knee-eh-beh- snow
  3. hielo- ee- eh-logh- ice
Science: We discussed and illustrated( through mini plays) the following:
  1. How the earth orbits around the sun = seasons
  2. How the earth's rotation = night and day
  3. What is matter?
  4. Solids, and liquids in winter =rain= snow and ice.


Numbers: Reviewed numbers 1-20

Phrases:
We will learn how to say

  • What is the temperature today?/ Què tiempo hace hoy? keh- tea-ehm-poh ah-ceh oi?
  • Hoy es ( day of the week) hace frio.- oi ehs- ______________ ah-ceh free-oh.


Books: We have read the following books so far

  2. Snow Ball
  3. Hickory Dickory Dock
  4. Queenie Farmer had 15 daughters
Craft- We reinforced the following vocabulary words
  • nieve- knee- eh-beh- snow
  • mitones- me-tohn-nehs- mittens
  • We created 3 snowmen which they had to put together( a critical thinking exercise) and pasted them on construction paper.
  • We created a mitòn- mitten - reinforced two vocabulary words:
  1. mitones- mittens
  2. manos- hands
  • This craft activity reinforced the concept of appropriate attire for invierno.
Days of the Week- Reviewed days of the week
  • domingo- doh-ming-goh- Sunday
  • lunes- loon-ehs- Monday
  • martes- mahr-tehs- Tuesday
  • mièrcoles- me- ehr-koh-lehs- Wednesday
  • jueves- who- eh- behs- Thursday
  • viernes-bee-ehr-nehs- Friday
  • sàbado- sah-bah-doh- Saturday
Homework- I wanted to combine a review of the days of the week with phrases. Therefore, the kids received a handout that has them putting these two concepts together. Please do the following with them daily:
  • Have student say each day- Hola, buenos dias. Hoy es_________( day of the week), hace frio.
  • Students should say this daily and initial besides the correct day of the week on the handout.

Valentines Day-
We will be exchanging valentines next month on Feb. 12th. Below are the names of the kids in the class:

You may bring valentine cards on this day.

Tuition: Tuition will be $55.00 for the month. You may put the money in the green bin. If you are paying with cash, please put money in an envelop and put your child's name on it.
