We will use Viva el Español Curriculum.. it will include, puppets, student workbook, Audio CD, Posters, Classroom Library books, flash cards, songs on CD...." The curriculum is intended to develop communicative competency in listening, speaking , reading and writing." Wright group.

CLASS UPDATE FOR 11/272007


Hola, Hoy es viernes! Hace mucho frìo. ( it is very cold)


Calendar Fun
  • Students had to identify their day of the week card
  • Next Students had to say their weekday and get in proper order
  • Lastly, students had to rise their weekday when they heard it on the the song. The song used was days of the week.
Phrases Practice
  • We practiced saying phrases by combining days of the week.
  • Students had to say, " Hola, hoy es___________"( the day of the week that corresponded to them.) They also had to recognize my question, "¿Què dìa es hoy?
  • This little practice was done playing "roll the ball" which the kids really seem to enjoy.
Numbers Review
  • We reviewed numbers 1-10
  • We introduced numbers 11, 12
  • I used flashcards to combine the review and introduction with farm animals that we are learning.
  • The kids also had to listen to the question in Spanish and respond in a short sentence.
  • Example: ¿Cùantas vacas hay? which means "How many cows are there" Next, the kids had to respond " Hay _________vacas" ( depending on the number)
Animal Review
  • We reviewed wild animals using the Animales song and stuffed animals.
  • Kids each received 2 different wild animals and they were to identify and act out their movements when they heard the animal in the song.
  • One student was in the middle and the others in an outer circle. Student had to listen for his/her animal and jump in the circle when they hear it.
  • List of animals- animales
  1. el elèfante- the elephant
  2. el oso- the bear
  3. el tigre- the tiger
  4. el canguro- the kangaroo
  5. el mono- the monkey
  6. la serpiente- the snake
  7. el hipopotamo- the hippo
  8. el pàjaro- the bird
  9. la foca- the seal
  10. la zebra- the zebra
  11. el leòn
The kids are doing very well with these animals

HABITAT- We talked about what a habitat was. We grouped the wild animals into what would be their natural habitats and also the zoo. The kids were very smart about where these animals lived and ate.

REVIEW OF FARM ANIMALS
  • We reviewed the following animals:
  • el gato
  • el perro
  • el pavo
  • la vaca
  • el pato
  • la gallina
  • el burrò
  • el caballo
We did not get to the pavo. We will finish that next week.

BOOK- Excuse me Please
  • I used this book to review farm animals and also wild animals.
  • We learned the following Spanish words/phrases
  1. Por favor - please
  2. gracias- thank you
  3. no, es muy mal- no, that is very bad
HOMEWORK- Please practice the animals with the kids. Please have them tell you each day
" Hoy es_______" Today is and then the day of the week.
Have them count to 10.

NEXT WEEK-
I will concentrate on the following
  • Farm animals
  • Month of Dec.
  • Numbers 11 and 12
  • Christmas in Latin America trip begins. ****** Please bring in a picture of your child that you can spare. We will be making passports.

Amigo Navideño- Christmas friend.
We will have a secret Christmas friend all through Christmas until we return and celebrate the 3 wise men day on Jan. 8th. It is a very popular holiday celebration in Latin America. This is the day when the kids get presents in their shoes.
Each child will choose a secret amigo/a and on Jan. 8th they will bring in a present for him/her from the dollar store. ( should only cost 1.00) We will place gift in the shoe and celebrate the 3 wise men day.

This is a fun cultural experience for the kids.

Christmas Song- I will choose one Christmas song for the kids to memorize.. Most likely the popular Feliz Navidad song.

Dec. 18th- Navidad in Chile
No classes on Dec. 25th! Feliz Navidad
